There was no time to rest this morning. Doug, a member from our church who is related to Steve, had me out building roof trusses for a new school house. The building will accommodate 2 classrooms for middle school age students. In total, the school has more than 330 students.

The material we are working with is milled with a chainsaw. The wood is completely green and incredibly warped. The boards vary in thickness from 3 inches to 1 inch. The width varies from 4 inches to 8 inches. It’s all random lengths. The men who are helping me have never built a truss before. I don’t think they’ve ever seen a roof truss before. Today was a very slow day in terms of production. The good news is, it was very hot and humid!

Kristine and Debbie, Doug’s wife, visited the spent some time at the school. The school was hosting a field day for 5 different schools. There were hundreds of kids there for the event. From early that morning throughout the day, the kids were screaming at the top of their lungs. They had distance races, long jump, hurtles, sprints, and more. The kids were very athletic.

The kids were drawn to Kristine. She started taking selfies with the kids and she was mobbed!
